The poem Desiderata, written nearly a century ago, gained popularity in the 1960’s and 70’s. The words of the poem were ubiquitous when I was in my early teens; I remember seeing them on posters everywhere. I think I bought one of those posters. The words spoke to my angst-filled, brooding teen self.
Desiderata is considered a prose poem. Leonard Nimoy recited it (I could not embed here so you will need to follow this link: Nimoy Reads Desiderata).
The poem was also set to music by Les Crane in 1972, when I was not yet in my teens. I vaguely remember the “song.” You can hear the Les Crane version below:
