If you’re looking to completely escape the reality of life as we know it, this might not be the book for you.
Minette Walters, 2018
Well, this is timely.
The Last Hours is a novel set in 14th Century England as the Black Death (plague) first makes itself known. Conditions include self-imposed quarantine, supply shortages, and suspicion of others.
I read this when COVID-19 was just background noise – the time I refer to as Before. The story was entertaining, with a couple of very evil characters, and was also somewhat predictable. I enjoy historical fiction in this time period, so I expected that I would want to continue the series, but when I finished I found I had spent all the time I wanted with these characters. The book is not amazing, but it passed the time.
I checked this out from my local library and I bet you can find it at yours.
